Hi, I’m Fiona! I am a British illustrator, now based in Columbus Ohio. I love to create colorful worlds, full of details for the imagination to explore. Starting with hand-drawn ink-pen lines and watercolor, I then mix and layer digital elements for extra boosts of brightness and fun. I specialize in architectural subjects, city scenes, maps and childrens’ illustration.
My path into illustration began in Architecture and in Art History, studying at Cambridge University, Oxford Brookes University and then working in architectural firms in UK and US cities. I taught courses in Art and Architectural History at college level and also for elementary age kids. These experiences shaped the way that I look at and illustrate the world around me. From the birds eye view all the way down to the tiny details, I want to draw out the complex and quirky stories that surround us day by day.
I enjoy the collaborative nature of illustration: listening to the needs of a client, understanding what information is key, and then translating this into visually cohesive and beautiful illustrations that clearly tell their story.
Clients include: The Scout Guide magazine (Columbus, Cincinnati, Charleston, Naples); Experience Columbus, The Ohio State University, University of Dayton, She Has A Name, Firefly Education, Chinosity news, Societa Bancaria Ticinese, The City Art Book series, as well as many other commercial and private commissions. My watercolour cityscapes have been shown across the US in solo and group exhibitions. And my first picture book Carl Goes to New York, by author Abigail Fredelake, is out now and available for purchase.
